During my senior year in high school I was preparing for career day. I was asked what I wanted to do when I graduated. I had always wanted a career in law enforcement and I subsequently achieved that goal. I want to round it out by being Sheriff of Montezuma County. I see a need for improvement at the current Sheriff's Office and I know I can do the job. While attending a management class I read the difference between a leader and a boss. I made the statement into a poster and it now hangs above my desk:
The challenge of leadership is:
to be strong, but not rude;
be kind, but not weak;
be bold, but not bully;
be thoughtful, but not lazy;
be humble, but not timid;
be proud, but not arrogant;
have humor, but without folly."
I can bring this type of leadership to the Montezuma County Sheriff Office. My record reflects an understanding of the issues gained through twenty-nine years of experience as a public servant. During the past twenty-nine years, I have worked on issues as diverse as our citizens and have a vision for the future of our residents and our county. As Sheriff I promise to:
- Responsibly manage the Sheriff's budget
- Have zero tolerance for the use and sale of illegal narcotics
- Proactively enforce the laws of our county and vigorously support our constitution
- Work to foster unity with other agencies for maximum efficiency and cooperation
Please consider my candidacy for Sheriff when you go to the polls to vote. Thank you.
